Be Live Experience Lanzarote Beach Stay and Review.

The Be Live Experience Lanzarote Beach is a 4-star All Inclusive / Half Board resort in Costa Teguise. As the name suggests, beach access is just minutes away, with one side of the resort having sea views . We booked this with easyJet as a last minute summer holiday in August 2023 and were pleasantly surprised with both the hotel and the surrounding resort.

Hotel & Pool at night

Before traveling, there were some negative reviews of the hotel - some saying the buffet restaurant was in a basement and oppressive with no natural light, paint was flaking off the outside walls everywhere and rooms were terrible. In all honesty, we’re pleased we ignored those reviews and went with the abundance of good reviews, as in our experience, we found it to be a nice modern hotel with great staff. Yes, there are a few things to be improved / updated as you will see, but on the whole, a nice holiday.

Rooms

We stayed in a Be Live Family Room but typically we forgot to take pictures. The room was spacious and does come with some extras for the kids which included an easel with chalk, and a few cakes. Included were also cold drinks in the fridge with some beers.

The bathroom seemed relatively new and modern with a large shower, but the base was bouncy and some of the water would get onto the floor - especially after a family of 4 had been through it.

The main bed was in need of a new mattress as was one of the kids’ beds - however, with the extra blankets form the wardrobe it made that bed manageable for one of the kids.

There was plenty of storage space, hangers etc so this was good point.

The safe still required a deposit as did the towels but you were refunded at the end of the holiday. Be warned though, you must pay cash for these - no cards. Luckily we had some cash with us as it wasn’t stated on any of the literature before arrival.

Late checkout - you can request this the before departure via reception. They will take your room number and put you on the list. You’ll then need to go back 1 day before departure and check if your room is available. If so you pay a fee - which depends on how long the room is available for - I think a 1/2 day was 20 euros and a later checkout was slightly more expensive. Unfortunately our room wasn’t available for late check-out but they did offer a shower room.

Playa de Las Cucharas

The beach or promenade area was easily accessible via stairs at the rear of the resort. It was very clean with shops, bars and cafes here. As with many Spanish promenades it was fully pedestrianised and a split path for walking, running / scooters. Once onto the promenade you can walk you can walk as far as the Paradisus by Melia which is around 1.5km. Going around the back of this hotel you can then access the Playa de loc Charcos.

Pool Area

Good Size, multiple zero entry points, clean.

Entertainment team were great organising volleyball and water aerobics - full of fun. If you don’t want to get wet or hit with the ball - don’t get a front row sun bed.

The gym

Prepare for the heat.

It’s always nice to have a gym or fitness centre on-site - at least for us anyway. This is certainly more of a gym than fitness centre with one treadmill, one step machine, two spin bikes and a rowing machine - let’s call it functional.

Floor to ceiling mirrors are good for checking form and the space was well lit. There’s also a stack of free weights, a few mats and extra floor space to do your own HIIT workout.

During our stay the water station was never full so take a large bottle as the gym is downstairs and comes off an open corridor with no air-con - the space traps heat. That was a big downside so just be prepared. At the time of our stay one of the spin bikes also had a broken seat so was unusable.

We didn’t find the gym got much use but on the odd occasion it felt cramped with up to 3 people using it at the same time.

Overall it’s a functional space where you can get some exercise whilst on holiday. It’s got enough equipment and does the job but don’t expect anything flash and take plenty of water.

Restaurants & Bars

The hotel has 3 bars including an Irish Pub, Lobby and Poll bar, and 2 restaurants - the buffet and a la carte option.

We always look for hotels & resorts with an a la carte dining option. It’s a change from the buffet which in most hotels can become repetitive. If your are All-Inclusive or All-Inclusive plus, at the time of our stay you received 2 a la carte dinners per 7 night stay. This is quite good value as most hotels only allow one.

Officially the pool bar opens at 10am but early morning it was open to get a coffee from the machines - probably for those up to get a sun bed. It’s the usual tale of sun bed wars (no fighting though), early down to throw towels on them and not to return for hours. The hotel do say they’ll remove things but that never happened and if you weren’t down to get and use a sun bed, you weren’t going to get one until much later in the day.

Brandy Well Pub - This is probably the worst part of the hotel. It wasn't a very pleasant place and had a strange smell to it - basically it needs a refurb. However, you can get drinks from here and sit in the hotel lobby which is much brighter and more spacious and there are also seats outside. This bar does hold the karaoke a couple of nights per week which starts around 9 / 10pm.

Timanfaya Buffet Restaurant

Open for breakfast lunch and dinner, it’s not the largest buffet restaurant but the range of fresh salads and fruit was impressive. The restaurant is downstairs and doesn’t have a lot of natural light but that doesn’t mean it’s dark, dingy or oppressive. The decor was bright and the hotel has made best use of the space available but the experience is made by the waiting staff - they were brilliant. If the hotel wants to improve in this area they could better label the foods/dishes for anyone with allergies or food intolerance. However, when required the chef did take people around the restaurant pointing out what was and was/not within their dietary requirements.

Breakfast - The usual ‘English’ options of sausages, bacon, beans etc which were offered most days alongside a range of breads for toasting, butters and jams. Other options such as churros, freshly made omelet and local dishes changed on rotation. Cold meats, cheese and salad options along with cereals and yoghurts completed the breakfast offering.

Lunch - Always fresh salads and fruit - some of which were available daily, others changed on rotation. There is a kids station serving typical chicken nuggets and chips as well as pizza. Of course, desserts were available with the typical Spanish buffet options - sponge and lots of cream.

Dinner - Again, a range of fresh salads, rice dishes, casseroles and more, with themed nights. The food on an evening was quite varied and the themed nights added a nice touch. One themed night included a chocolate fountain with jelly sweets and flumps which the kids really enjoyed. The food was nice - it’s not going to blow you away but it was better than average and you could put a good plate together that didn’t feel like you were adding random bits to the plate - everything went together.

Mylos A la carte - You must make a reservation for the a la carte, via reception. As you would expect, there is a more formal dress code. One Mediterranean and one Mexican / Spanish a la carte options, both in the same building on different nights. It was a nice change from the buffet and service was friendly. Food came quite quickly and the turnaround was swift - maybe a little quick. The restaurant wasn’t always busy so the atmosphere could do with a little warming but overall it was a good experience.

Picture shows Las Chispas Bar in Costa Teguise Lanzarote - it's set in a lovely square surrounded by bars and restaurants with most buildings painted white

Pueblo Mariners Square - Nearby area with bars and restaurants - within 5 minute walk of the hotel.

This is a lovely space, housing bars, restaurants and shops, just off Calle Las Olas and Plaza Coral. Chispas Bar, pictured, was great, right in the centre of it all and lots of Spanish wines on offer. It’s a small space inside but there’s plenty of space outside. Service was really good.

However, there are plenty more restaurants around for all tastes, so you could be half board or self catering in this area and you won’t struggle for places to eat. It is busy through, especially at the height of summer so you might want to reserve a table as some restaurants had lengthy wait times.

A quick note on hotel entertainment. If you love hotel entertainment you’re going to be disappointed. We can take or leave hotel entertainment but we tried it a couple of nights so the review would be accurate. Without being rude or disrespectful, the standard here was seriously lacking (in our opinion). This could be improved a lot, especially if you were there outside of the main summer season, where more time at night would be spent inside the hotel.

Final thoughts

Not bad for a last minute booking. The resort is pleasant and has everything you need for a break in the sun. It’s in a good location close to bars, shops and restaurants. If you don’t like wind, you don’t want a sea view room. Even in August it was very windy on that side of the hotel. As we had a room overlooking the pool it was protected from the wind.

There’s plenty on offer, food was nice, and the room was spacious. Entertainment needs improving.

We enjoyed our holiday and found the hotel staff really pleasant. Small improvements/ upgrades across a few areas could make this a really solid option for a family holiday.
